HAVE A FUN AND SAFE VACATION!
Do I have to pay extra for utilities?
Apr. 18, 2011
Nope. utilities are included as part of the rent with all the furnished units that are rented for 1 month or less. Longer rental terms, or units that are rented unfurnished will not include utilities unless specified in the rental agreement. Please do turn lights off when you are not in the unit and make sure that if you are running the Air conditioner you have all the windows and doors shut!
Does the place have a BBQ?
Apr. 18, 2011
All the furnished units that I rent out have propane BBQ's and the propane is supplied. Please remember to turn off the BBQ after you are finished with it. BBQ's that are left on are a safety concern not to mention the wasted gas that is consumed by leaving it on for long periods.
Does the place have a DVD player and are their DVD's there for us to watch?
Apr. 18, 2011
Yes, some of my units have a DVD player to watch but i do not keep a supply of DVD's in the unit. you are welcome to go into Apsley to the general store where they have a wide selection of DVD's available for rental. Check the actual rental unit listing to be sure there is a DVD player in the specific unit you are renting?
Does the place have a fire pit?
Apr. 18, 2011
Yes it does have a fire pit that happens to be located right near the beach that is shared by everyone in the complex. . Please refer to the terms and conditions guidebook for instructions on how to use it as this property is right in the middle of the Kawartha Highlands Provincial park and it falls under the provincial regulations governing its use!
Does the place have cable or satellite TV?
Apr. 18, 2011
Yes I am pleased to say all the units that I rent have TV's with satellite connection for programming. The size of the TV, and access to gameing systems and DVD players will very with the actual unit being rented. Check the actual properties listing to be sure you are getting what you want! Please only use it if the weather is bad as the place is far to beautiful to spending all your time inside!
Does the place have Internet?
Apr. 18, 2011
Yes I am pleased to say the place does have wireless high speed internet. Please do understand though that its probably not the high speed you are used to. In this area the only way to get an internet connection is using satellite and their version of high speed is currently a lot slower then the high speed available from the major carriers.
How do I know the place actually exists and that you are not just trying to scam me out of my money?
Apr. 18, 2011
One recommendation I have for those people that are worried is to make the drive to the unit and I will make arrangements for my rental manager to take you for a tour. Not very convenient or practical so I can offer you one other alternative. One of the places I advertise my rental is on the website http://www.homeway.com . My property listing number on this site is 190951. This website offers a "HomeAway Carefree Rental Guarantee" if you send an enquiry about my property from this website and then notify them of your intent to rent my unit you can get covered under their guarantee. Receive protection against internet fraud for 50% of your vacation rental amount up to $1,000. or take their expanded option and get covered for Protection against Misrepresentation, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and internet fraud up to an amount of $10,000. Please go to http://www.homeaway.com for further details.
How long a drive is it from Toronto?
Apr. 18, 2011
I live in central Toronto and I can usually get to the townhouse in about an hour and forty five minutes. I have made the trip in faster time but I really can not afford the speeding tickets!
How will I get access to the place?
Apr. 18, 2011
I have an onsite rental manager that will meet you at the property and let you in. he will show you where every thing is and help you get settled. I will provide you with the rental managers name once your reservation is paid in full.
I have a 2 dogs, 3 cats, and a pet rattle snake, am I allowed to bring my pets on vacation?
Apr. 18, 2011
Let’s get serious folks.... Pets are welcome but only two of them and any pet that may be considered dangerous is not going to get access to the unit. Snakes, tigers, lions and any other dangerous creature will not be let into the unit under any circumstances. Please note that you are in the wilderness and all pets should be supervised and kept on leashes when out of doors. Bears, foxes, and other wild animals are in the area and might consider your beautiful pet as a nice light snack!
Is the kitchen fully stocked? are there pots and pans? Utensils? Glasses and dishes?
Apr. 18, 2011
Yes, all the furnished units that I rent have fully equipped kitchens that should have most everything you need to cook and serve a nice meal. Pots and pans are stored in the lower cupboards, glasses and dishware are stored in the upper cupboards, and the utensils are stored in the kitchen drawers. If you plan on cooking something that requires some sort of special pot (ie. deep fryer), or utensile then you should bring it.
Is there anything else I need to know about using the place?
Apr. 18, 2011
yes there is. In most cases my onsite rental manager will have gone over everything with you and told you everything you need to know about renting this cottage. It is best however if you review the terms of rental and our rental guidelines. The information is published on the web and is available here!
It mentions in your advertising that you have a canoe and paddle boat available for me to use. How does that work? Do I get exclusive use of them?
Apr. 18, 2011
The canoes and paddle boats are available for use by all my tenants. You may not be the only tenant I have in the complex at any one time. It is expected that you will be courteous and share use of these water craft with my other tenants. If it turns out that this does not work, I will have to use a sign up sheet and have my rental manager supervise the use of this equipment. I really would rather not go this route if I do not have too. So far in the last 2 years this has not been a problem.
My children are young, is there a good beach for them to swim in?
Apr. 18, 2011
There is a wonderful roped off beach area in the complex and it is great for children. There is also a separate swim dock that is ideal for older children as well. Please note that this property is in the Canadian Shield. This means that the beach above the water line is sand, but below it there are rocks. Please bring water shoes.
Why do I have to pay a security deposit?
Apr. 18, 2011
If the rental is being paid by credit card then security deposits or damage deposits are not required. If the rental payment is made by any other means then a security deposit may be required. In order to ensure that the place is treated properly it has been proven necessary to hold cash as security for damage to the unit. This amount is usually returned in full within 15 days of the rental. On occasion it may take a bit longer if I have to wait to receive phone bills etc, to verify charges.
